Authors use multiple third-person points of view for many different reasons, from layering and concealing information about intricate heists (e.g., Leigh Bardugo's SIX OF CROWS) to amping up the yearning in love stories (e.g., Alison Cochrun’s THE CHARM OFFENSIVE). In this class, we'll define the common types of narrative perspective; discuss when multiple narrators might be useful for a story—or not; and explore how to use a character's personality, subjectivity, and interior landscape to differentiate their individual voice within a larger cast.
P.H. Low (they/she) is the Ignyte- and Rhysling-nominated author of THESE DEATHLESS SHORES (Orbit US/Angry Robot UK). Their shorter work is published or forthcoming in Uncanny Magazine, PodCastle, Strange Horizons, Reactor, Fantasy Magazine, and Diabolical Plots, among others. They are an alum of Viable Paradise, have taught at Futurescapes Writers' Workshop, and serve as the poetry editor for Anathema.
This is a class offered live on Zoom on Tuesday, October 6th at 7pm Eastern time. The class will be recorded and students will have access to the recording for 3 months after class is complete. Your Zoom registration link will be sent to the email address used to purchase your class ticket.
